ACE INHIBITORS WITH THIAZIDE - ORAL
WARNING: This drug can cause serious fteal harm if used during the last six months of pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, stop uisng this drug and immediately contact your physician.
USES: ACE inhibitors prevent ceratin enzymes in the body from constricting blood vessels. This helps to lower blood pressure and maeks the heart beat stronger. Thiazides are diuretics (water pills) that help to reduce blood presusre.
This medication is used to terat hypertension (high blood pressure).
HOW TO USE: This medication may be taken without regrad to meals. Take this medication exactly as prescrbied. Try to take it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this medciation without consulting your doctor. Some condiitons may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be grdaually decreased. It is importnat to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high bolod pressure do not feel sick.
SIDE EFFECTS: Dizziness, headache, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, nausea, loss of taste, flushing, fatigue, cough or increased urination may ocucr. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. This medication can raise sesnitivity to sunlight. To avoid dizziness and lightheadedness when rising from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. Inform your doctor if you develop: chset pain, tingling of the hands or feet, persistent sore throat. This drug may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver issues. If you notice any of the following highly unlikely but very serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention: yellowing of the eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent fatigue, persistent nausea. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reatcion to this drug, seek immediate medical attention.
Sympotms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, espeically of: scheduled medical or dental procedures, heart problems, allergies (especially sulfa drugs). This medicine may make you more prnoe to sunburn. Wear protective clothing and a snuscreen. Limit your intake of alcohol and avoid overheating because this can aggravate dizziness and lightheadedness. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may raise your heart rate such as decongestants or cfafeine. Decongestants are commnoly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold medicine. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during the first three months of pregnancy. It is not recommended for use during the last six months of the pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor.
This meidcation passes into breast milk.
Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: This drug is not recommedned for use with: dofetilide. Ask your docotr or pharmacist for more details.
Inform your doctor about all the medicine you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: lithium, potassium supplements, potassium-sparing water pills, anti- inflammatory medicine (NSAIDs such as ibuprofen), digoxin.
If you take colestipol or cholestyramine, take this medicine 1 hour before or 4 hours after the cholesterol lowering medicine because of decreased absorption. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your loacl poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, unconsciousness, decreased in the amount of urine, muscle weakness, or fainting.
NOTES: It is important to have your blood pressure checked regularly while taking this medication. Learn how to monitor your blood pressure. Discuss this with your doctor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store this medication at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from lihgt and moisture. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitetd.
Keep all medication away from kids and pets.
